Team Naomi at the London Marathon!

Bright and early on Sunday 23rd April, 10 wonderful fundraisers made their way to the capital to run for Naomi House & Jacksplace.

The 2017 London Marathon was described as “the greatest ever” by the event director, Hugh Brasher, with 39,487 people taking on the world famous 26.2 mile run.

Shaun Justice was among those running for us. He ran in memory of his niece Lacey, who came to Naomi House & Jacksplace during her final months.

Shaun looks back at Lacey’s first stay at Naomi House:

She went on the swing for the first time in her life and the smile on her face and pictures we have of this still make me smile so much... she was a little girl again. Small things we take for granted were possible at Naomi House, like just having the doors open in her room so she could feel the breeze and fresh air brightened her spirits. It was at Naomi House that we got to take Lacey swimming for the first time, myself and her dad took her in the pool and I will never forget that moment, the staff were amazing and gave me a memory that will live with me forever. We had so many amazing experiences with Lacey that we would never have had if it was not for Naomi House and the amazing job its staff do, nothing was ever too much.Naomi House allowed us to be a family, a normal family as much as was physically possible and I will never be able to thank you enough for that, all I can do is try to help with you providing this for other families in the future.

Collectively, Team Naomi have raised £10,000 for our hospices! That’s enough to fund a sensory session for 133 children in our care.

Naomi House & Jacksplace events assistant, Natalie Down, went to London to support Team Naomi. Accompanied with some of our fantastic volunteers, Natalie was cheering on our runners on Tower Bridge! She said:

The atmosphere was incredible! Everyone is so proud of our runners. Running the London Marathon is an incredible achievement and one that will always stay with them. The money they’ve raised for Naomi House & Jacksplace will help us support even more families on their good days, difficult days and last days.
