Volunteer-run Recycle Bike Hub recently sold their 1,000th recycled bicycle, raising over £80,000 to date for Naomi House & Jacksplace. The bike workshop is based in our warehouse in Winnall, Winchester and was co-founded in 2021 by Richard Hollingdale and Luke Brashier.

The bike workshop is run by a group of dedicated volunteers with the aim of recycling used bicycles, getting more people into cycling, and raising vital funds for our hospices.

Catherina Emery, Volunteer Coordinator at Naomi House & Jacksplace, said:

Recognising Recycle Bike Hub’s incredible milestone is especially meaningful as we celebrate this year’s Volunteers’ Week. The volunteers at the workshop make such a positive impact on the community, and the funds raised through their hard work are a true testament to their dedication and support for Naomi House & Jacksplace. We are extremely lucky to have such a great team of volunteers who not only do a fantastic job but enjoy their role and the companionship of the colleagues they work with. When volunteers come together with a shared purpose and generous hearts, extraordinary things happen – and the success of the Recycle Bike Hub team is shining example of the power of volunteering. Well done to you all!

Volunteers at the Recycle Bike Hub refresh, repair and rebuild pre-loved bikes, making them ‘fit to ride’. The workshop offers a unique service as every bike sold is signed off by a qualified bike mechanic, giving the next owner the confidence to buy the recycled bike. Generous donations cover the cost of the spare parts required to refurbish the donated bikes, resulting in 100% of the sales price of every bike sold going directly to Naomi House & Jacksplace.

Richard Hollingdale, Co-Founder of Recycle Bike Hub and volunteer at Naomi House & Jacksplace, said:

At Recycle Bike Hub, we want to stop bikes from ending up in landfills, to spread the joy of cycling with more people and to raise funds for a great charity – Naomi House & Jacksplace. The success we achieved has been greater than we could have ever imagined. The workshop has now recycled and sold 1,027 bikes and raised £82,150 to date for Naomi House & Jacksplace. A big thank you to everyone who has worked with us to achieve this milestone – a great example of teamwork!

Through recycling the bikes, we were also able to positively offset 100 tonnes of carbon dioxide to date, making a big difference for our environment. A big thank you to everyone who has either donated or purchased one of our recycled bikes. Together we have saved a lot of bikes from rusting away in sheds and got plenty of people cycling on an affordable bike.
