“Normal lad from Newbury” raises over £3,000 climbing Beacon Hill

Shaun Irlam is a “normal lad from Newbury” who set his sights on climbing Beacon Hill in Newbury every day through January to support Naomi House & Jacksplace.

He decided to do the challenge in January as it’s always a long month and was a great way to focus on good mental health through activity during lockdown.

Whilst the goal was the same every day, every walk was different, whether it was the weather (including the unexpected snowfall) or being joined in a socially distanced way by friends. Shaun’s commitment to this challenge was incredible and demonstrates what can be achieved with the spark of an idea and a bundle of determination.

As a person I am just driven. If I say I’m going to do something, I’m going to do it. We’ve all got that inside us, we just need to find it and dig it out. This month, I have put myself outside my comfort zone, all for a good cause.

Shaun set himself the challenge to raise £250 over the course of the month, but with the support of his friends and family and followers on social media, he smashed that target, having raised over £3,000!
