A Moment’s Calm at Naomi House

Ruben 4

Six year old Ruben lives with his mum, Jess, dad, Alan and older sister, Lily-May. Although Ruben hasn’t received a final diagnosis, he has many of the characteristics of the genetic disorder, Noonan syndrome. He has breathing difficulties, is fed via a pump and has seizures and developmental delay. Ruben is a happy boy who's personality and smile will brighten anyone's day.

We spoke to Jess about the Christmases Ruben and his family have spent at Naomi House, and the magical memories they've made.

“For the past 3 years, we have stayed at Naomi House with Ruben in December and it really has marked the start of Christmas for us.

“Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year but also the most stressful for all families. But with a family like ours, Christmas brings highs and lows; winter with a sick child is always hard.

But Naomi House gives us a moment’s calm. A time for us to all rest and recover. From making decorations with the play team that we can keep forever, to meeting Santa in his grotto, we love every minute.

“Ruben loves his extended family at Naomi House and we can’t thank all the staff enough for working during the holidays to make our Christmas extra special.”

Ruben's Family Story

"If I say to him, we’re going to Naomi House, he says ‘it’s my home’ and he gets excited. He is besotted with the place and that, as a mum, is what you want."
