Emma signs up to epic challenge only weeks before the event

The National Three Peaks challenge is not for the faint hearted. It is an epic challenge to conquer Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours. That is a total walking distance of 462 miles and a total ascent of 3064 metres(10,052ft). Anyone taking on the three peaks would ideally train for months beforehand to practice continuous uphill climbs, build up stamina and improve overall fitness.

This however was not the case for Emma Hancock, our very own Event Intern at Naomi House & Jacksplace. Alongside being a third year university student at University of Winchester approaching her dissertation deadline, working a part-time job and supporting our fundraising team for the upcoming calendar of events, Emma decided to take part in the challenge only 3 weeks before the event date.

Emma was in charge of stewarding the participants completing the National Three Peaks challenge for Naomi House & Jacksplace and very soon decided to join them.

I was lucky enough to have looked after the stewardship of this year’s National Three Peaks participants and in doing so was inspired to join them and take on the challenge myself with SVL Adventures!

Despite not getting in a lot of training, Emma managed to complete the National Three Peaks in the 24 hour time limit and still with a smile on her face.

The fundraising support the team and I received was overwhelming and I felt extremely lucky to be taking on such a challenge for the hospices. It was a privilege to hear the personal stories of some of the participants and their reasons for getting involved with fundraising for Naomi House & Jacksplace.

The weather did not disappoint and the atmosphere along the routes – especially Ben Nevis – was unmatched and encouraged me to keep going.

The whole weekend was incredibly well organised by Simon from SVL Adventures & I encourage anyone to take on the challenge no matter your ability!
