In July we returned to Sunnyfields Farm in Totton, Southampton to host a fun day full of activities and movies with our Cinema Under Canvas event, raising over £2,000 to support the children and young adults in our care.

On the day, our supporters gathered under a charming canopy to watch two family classics, Finding Nemo and Matilda the Musical. Everyone also had the opportunity to get involved with an interactive performance, led by artist Charlotte Lorenz.

Alongside the films and performances, families enjoyed a lovely day of activities including a raffle, a teddy tombola and a sensory play area. The sensory play area helps our supporters have a glimpse into the play activities that children and young adults can take part in at the hospices. The sensory activities our play and activities team deliver have a number of benefits, among them are that they help develop problem solving skills and build nerve connections, all while having fun.

We also held a pop-up shop ran by the amazing team from our Totton charity shop. Families were able to pick up new toys and games for a bargain to take home, which raised over £130 on the day.

Lynne Walker, Totton Charity Shop Manager, had to say this about the day:

It was my first attempt at a pop-up shop but I was pleased with what we had and the results we achieved. We sold children’s clothes, shoes, toys and games. We saw a lot of regular customers from the shop and they were really pleased to see us there. We met a lot of new people from the community who were curious to see what we had on offer. The event overall was great with a happy and fun atmosphere. I would definitely be up for doing it again!

There were several options for food and drinks on the day from vendors and our tuck shop. Thank you to Surrey Ices UK and Black Bear Coffee who provided delicious treats and refreshments.

Gemma Rolfe, Fundraising Officer at Naomi House & Jacksplace said:

It was a pleasure to be back at Sunnyfields Farm for Cinema Under Canvas with the beloved animated classic from Pixar, Finding Nemo and Matilda the Musical, a Tony Award-winning production based on Roald Dahl’s novel. Such a lovely event for families to attend and be a part of. The addition of our sensory area and pop-up shop gave the day a great atmosphere. Thank you to everyone who attended.

It was fantastic to see 200 people from the local community come out with their families to attend Cinema Under Canvas. The proceeds raised over £2,000 to support the life limited and life threatened children and young adults who visit our hospices.
