On Friday 4th July, more than 100 people gathered at Purdey at the Royal Berkshire Shooting School in Reading for our Charity Clay Shoot.

Our goal for the event was to raise the equivalent of a nurse's annual salary. We are excited to share that in total we have raised £80,000 which has achieved and surpassed our target.

The day consisted of a series of shooting rounds, featuring both aerial and ground-level targets, to showcase skills as well as battling it out to be the top scoring team.

We had our very own team taking on the shooting rounds. This consisted of nurses; Ruth, Lilian and Sophie, as well as Paul, Director of Fundraising and Communications. Despite their amazing efforts, sadly they came in with the least points and received the clay conservation prizes of a fluffy pheasant toy.

Ahead of the afternoon dinner, a speech was given by Matt and Imee, a family supported by Naomi House & Jacksplace. Their son Freddie, who sadly died in 2023, had received care from the hospices as he came to end of his life.

The Naomi House & Jacksplace team guided us through our worst fears in such a gentle and respectful way that even though we were, and will forever be, devastated by Freddie's death, we can look back knowing that everything that could possibly be done, was done, and Freddie died with dignity.

Following the dinner, guests took part in a lively charity auction, with a range of exclusive prizes generously donated by supporters of Naomi House & Jacksplace.

The day was made even more special by a guest appearance from Charlie Ireland, land agent and familiar face from the hit series Clarkson’s Farm.

It’s been an absolute privilege to be part of the committee for this year’s Charity Clay Shoot. After supporting Naomi House & Jacksplace for over ten years, I’m still blown away by the incredible work they do every single day. Seeing over 100 people come together, enjoying a fantastic day of shooting, sharing stories, and raising such a phenomenal amount, it’s truly heart warming. I can’t wait to see how much is raised in next year’s event.
