Respite
Every child, who has been referred to Naomi House, is able to visit the hospice to benefit from 16 nights respite each year. Within broad guidelines the child, along with their immediate family, can choose when they come to stay.
Usually families ask to spend a week at the hospice during the summer months, and then several short breaks through out the year. Each family likes to spread their nights in a way that suits their family.
Families do not always stay when their child visits for respite stays at the hospice. Sometimes parents, along with brothers and sisters, choose to go away on a family holiday. Often this would not be possible without the support they receive from Naomi House.
Respite care at Naomi House is provided by qualified team of paediatric nurses and carers who are on hand 24hours a day, every day of the year. Their expertise means that we are able to look after children who have complex medical needs.
We aim to provide 1:1 care for each child, but if more intensive support is required we ensure that our staffing ratios reflect that need.
When the children and families come to stay for a short break at Naomi House they can take part in a wide range of activities that will help them to relax, communicate and play.
Naomi House has a homely environment, families can sit down to eat together, make friends and enjoy having some time out to relax whilst their poorly child is cared for by the team. Families enjoy staying at the hospice because they get time to be parents and enjoy their children.
