Respite Visits
Having Tom has fun during a respite visit to jackspalce
Young adults, with life-limiting or life threatening conditions, who have been referred to jacksplace, are able to come to the new hospice for respite visits. These visits are available throughout the year and can booked to suits the needs of the young person. Sometimes a visitor may stay for a couple of days, and at other times they may choose to visit for a whole week.
Each young person is offerred 16 nights respite each year. We try to give the young adults privacy, dignity and independance during their visit and facilitate as many experiences for them as possible. It is up to the individual to decide how they want to spend their respite visit and we assist them to achieve that. Usually respite is a great opportunity to meet new people, try new things or relax and chill out.
During the year the team organises special weekends, with particular needs in mind. For example, we hold sensory weekends and transition weekends. Our team co-ordinate invitations to these special weekends and organise a full programme of activity for the young people to enjoy. Visitors usually book their respite in advance, but sometimes if an emergency occurs, we can sometimes offer last minute bookings or emergency support. This is done on a case by case basis because every emergency is different.
Families can come to stay too! If parents or partners wish to stay at jacksplace, while a young person visits, this is usually possible. We have a self conatined flat for families to use. Our staff can advise on this at the time of booking a respite visit.
