The roof going on at jacksplace
Building and equipping jacksplace, the new hospice for young people
Foundation stone being laid
In June 2008 construction of the new hospice for young people began, when several of the youngsters came along to the sod cutting ceremony marking the formal start of construction.
jacksplace has been built on land adjoining Naomi House, which is in a very easy to reach location close to major road and rail links.
Once the site had been cleared and the foundations laid, the building began to take shape. In October 2008 the Lord Lieutenants from Berkshire, Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Surrey, Sussex and Wiltshire laid the commemorative foundation stone, just as they had done at Naomi House 12 years earlier.
Lord Lieutenants with Young People
Construction continued through the winter months.
Celebrations for ‘topping out’ the building took place in March. David Gower, the ex England Cricketer, came along and laid the last roof tile. This was a great day for everyone.
During summer 2009 construction moved forward very quickly. Windows and doors were installed and the inside of the building began to take shape.
By the end of August the construction was almost complete and the first visitors were welcomed in to take a look at jacksplace during Open Days in September.
Raising the funds to reach the £12million appeal target
The appeal got an amazing head start when, in September 2007, Jack Witham, a local businessman, donated a legacy of £6million to help build and equip a new unit for young people.
Since then our supporters in the community have made amazing efforts to raise the remaining £6million which will enable Naomi House to open and run jacksplace. Their support is vital to the project, without their contribution jacksplace would not be possible.
Every month the amount raised by the community increases and the sum raised currently stands at over £9.8million.

We need one more big push from everyone to help to reach the goal of £12million so that young people can start enjoying the new facilities and access the support our care team can offer.
