Our Goal to provide support for young people

12 years ago, it was unusual for children with life-limiting conditions to live beyond their teenage years. However, since opening the hospice this has changed a lot. Medical advances mean that some of the children are now looking forward to growing up to become young adults, and they have very different needs.
The team at Naomi House recognised that the charity would not be able to continue to provide care for them in the children’s hospice, but no suitable alternative was available in the central South of England.
Providing palliative care for young people
Naomi House children’s hospice set a goal to close that gap in the provision of palliative care for young people. The children’s charity wanted to ensure that they could continue to offer them high quality palliative care for the whole of their lives and that meant creating a new facility. In 2007 the Trust decided to build, equip and run a new hospice which would be designed to provide an environment to give these young people privacy, dignity and independence.
