Caring for children with life limiting conditions
Naomi House is a purpose built children’s hospice at Sutton Scotney near Winchester. There is a homely environment at the hospice where the children and their families can come for short breaks. When they visit they can relax, have fun and have time to switch off from the day to day routines they normally follow at home.
With ten bedrooms, an end of life suite, a music room, a sensory room and a hydrotherapy suite Naomi House is designed to meet their needs.
In addition to the children’s bedrooms and bathrooms there is a self contained flat with five bedrooms where families can stay while their child is staying at the hospice.
The lounge and dining area is the hub of the hospice. There is always something going on, from music sessions to messy play, baking to playing computer games and sensory sessions to a visit by our ‘PAT’ (pets as therapy) dog.
The Dovecote is a room where family celebrations take place, children attend Christmas parties and build race tracks for remote control cars. Imagination is the only limit to the use of the room. We also use Dovecote for siblings events or use it as a cinema.
There are two specially equipped minibuses that take the children to local attractions, shopping, ten pin bowling or the cinema.
In the garden we have a great range of play equipment and an outdoor music room. There is plenty of space for the children, and their brothers and sisters, to enjoy sunny summer days or build snowmen and have snowball fights in the winter!
