Naomi House visits India!
Siblings Telia, Tiarna and Akaysia have fun making Rangoli
The beginning of the month has seen another exciting destination for Naomi House Airlines, this time in India. Naomi House Airlines is a new play theme in the hospice which involves the staff incorporating different cultures into play sessions from a wide range of countries. The whole of this month children in the hospice will have the opportunity to experience Indian culture in a variety of exciting and imaginative ways.
One activity that is already proving very popular is Rangoli design, a type of decorative Indian floor art. Rangoli is commonly thought of as good luck and is used for Indian festivals and outside people’s homes to welcome and invite guests in. Some siblings staying at Naomi House with their family were among the first to give the design a go. All had fantastic fun painting the Rangoli with a variety of vibrant colours and then giving it texture using granulated rice.
Other messy play activities that have been taking place include making elephants and Indian Gods. However it is not just messy play the children have been getting busy with in the hospice. They have also had the chance to engage their senses by tasting and smelling different Indian spices. Not only has this been fantastic fun but it something that each child can enjoy, whether they are cognitive or sensory.
India is the second destination for Naomi House Airlines following on from a very successful visit to China last month. Throughout the coming months there will be works of art created from countries all of over the world with the next stop offs including Madagascar and Egypt. We can’t wait to see them all and proudly display them in the hospice!
