Naomi House at Christmas
Christmas is a particularly special time at Naomi House and jacksplace hospices. Throughout December there are a number of special activities and celebrations which ensure the hospice is fun, fulfilling and very festive.
This Christmas has been particularly busy, with lots of youngsters staying at the hospice and an abundance of special guests.
Christmas activity began back in November, as youngsters from the hospice got the chance to decorate the Christmas tree at Winchester Cathedral and to take part in the ceremony and lantern parade to mark the opening of the annual market and ice rink.
Young football fans were treated to visits from both Portsmouth and Salisbury football clubs. Players from each team spent time with the children, helping to paint Christmas baubles and to decorate cakes.
Father Christmas often visits the hospice over the Christmas period, bringing with him gifts donated by local businesses and individuals. On one of Father Christmas’s visits, he surprised everybody by landing in the back garden, not by sleigh but by Lynx helicopter. This very unique visit was organised by 7 Regiment – Army Air Corps and was, no doubt, a welcome day off for Rudolf and the other reindeer.
There was ample opportunity for cheering and jeering, as the Starlight Children’s Foundation staged a very special pantomime performance of Aladdin. If one pantomime cast wasn’t enough, the youngsters were also treated to a visit from the cast of Peter Pan at The Anvil, Basingstoke.
Often, children visiting Naomi House are accompanied by their siblings. The care and play teams ensured that brothers and sisters of youngsters being cared for at the hospice were not left out of the fun, and they were treated to their very own Christmas party.
