Naomi House Airlines

ChineseNewYear

Naomi House has been celebrating Chinese New Year!

At the beginning of February Naomi House introduced an exciting new theme for play over the next few months, to be called “Naomi House airlines”. This will see the children experiencing different countries and their cultures during different months. Appropriately, China was Naomi House’s first stop, just in time for Chinese New Year.

All the children were encouraged to celebrate the New Year by getting creative with a range of different arts and crafts. This included painting flags, designing lanterns and even making silk paintings. With a little help from Google, the play team were also able to assist the children in creating their names using Chinese symbols.

Being the year of the rabbit many of the children opted to design a rabbit of their own using different coloured felts and fur. All of the children were then able to take their works or art away with them so they could proudly present them at home.

The next stop for Naomi House airlines will be India. This will be the new theme that the hospice will adopt at the end of this month and will offer exciting activities such as Henna design, tasting and smelling different spices and also decorating Buddhas and elephants.

Lisa Hannington is a member of the play team at Naomi House and she is helping to co-ordinate the project. She said, “I think being able to gain insight into these different cultures is a really valuable experience for the children. It’s also great because it is something that everyone can join in with and enjoy, no matter what their ability”.

This project will be continuing in Naomi House throughout the first half of this year alongside many of our traditional holidays such as Pancake and April Fool’s day. The project aims to help the children to enjoy diversity and will visit many different destinations including India at the end of this month, Madagascar and Egypt.
