Families and carers overview

Families

For good days, difficult days and end days

Caring for a child or young person suffering from a life-limiting or life threatening condition can be a 24-hour job and is physically, emotionally and financially demanding for parents. Siblings can feel left out and parents rarely get any time to themselves.

Wessex Children's Hospice Trust provides care to children and young adults who are not expected to live past 25 years of age. We also give their families a range of support services.

Our care services are offered from our two buildings (Naomi House and jacksplace) and our community service.  They are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and there is no charge to families.

Services include:

    • End of life care
    • Respite care or short breaks to include day care, emergency care and transition from hospital to home care

    • Community Support
    • Family and Sibling Support including care for a family after death
    • Support for young people with a life limited or life threatening condition through transition from children’s to adult services
    • Access to complementary therapies
    • Access to play and activities
    • Access to hydrotherapy pools
    • Multi-sensory rooms
If you are the parent of a child or young person with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, please browse through our website for more information or contact our care team for an informal chat about how we may be able to help your family.

If you would like to explore further opportunities for external (paid) counselling support, you could refer to www.counselling-directory.org.uk
