No more milk bottle tops!
You were great when you supported us by collecting and sending your milk bottle tops for us to recycle, but we had to call it a day! Along with many other charities, we decided some time ago that the money we were generating did not justify either the time – or, more particularly, the space - that the bottle tops took up. Their value is calculated by weight, rather than by volume, and, being so light, you can imagine how many bottle tops were needed to make up the kind of weight that would have made it worthwhile.
If you then consider that some of them were not properly washed and needed to be stored for longish periods of time in a warehouse that can get very hot…well we think you get the picture. Often people didn't realise that not all tops can be recycled so we had to spend hours sorting through them. Phew!
So, although it caught the nation's imagination (we were being sent bottle tops from Scotland, Devon, Norfolk - in fact from all over the place) and we were very grateful to everyone, we sadly had to make the decision to stop collecting them.
So please, please, PLEASE! don't send us any more. Some people still post them to us (we don't know who you are and we think you are wonderful) but we would rather that you didn't waste your money - in fact it would help us enormously if you donated the cost of the postage instead by clicking here.
