Naomi House awarded £1.5million
Professor Khalid Aziz
The £1.5million one off capital grant has been awarded to Naomi House by Hampshire Primary Care Trust (PCT). The grant comes after the charity launched a high profile media campaign asking the Government to guarantee the return of funds frozen in the British bank Kaupthing, Singer and Friedlander Limited.
The Administrators for the bank indicated that up to 75% of the charity’s frozen funds will eventually be returned following the banking crisis that happened in October 2008. This latest development means that the charity will recover the entire sum that was at risk.
Naomi House is meeting more need every year, with increases in referrals every year, the community service and jacksplace, to continue to care for young people as they live longer. Our provision in this way is unique in the country.
Donation patterns are changing and it is getter ever more difficult to raise the £5million the charity needs each year. The charity must secure sustainable funding from statutory sources in the future if it is to continue with plans to offer support to children and young people across the region.
Professor Khalid Aziz, Chairman of Naomi House, said, “We welcome this substantial one off grant from Hampshire PCT. Since our funds were frozen in October 2008 we have been campaigning for Government help and today we are delighted to announce this generous gesture that will help bring the charity some reassurance in these difficult times. This grant puts us back where we should have been eighteen months ago. If we are to continue with our plans to develop our services to life limited children and young adults we will be re-doubling our efforts to secure funding from PCTs, across the region we serve, in the future. We are grateful to all our supporters who have campaigned on our behalf, and share in our success today.”
