Legal and General declare Store Wars!

The Legal and General Basingstoke Team

The Legal and General Basingstoke Team

With offices in the North and South of the country the fantastic people in the Platforms and Policies department of Legal and General split into two teams and took over the Naomi House shop in Basingstoke and the Derian House shop in Horwich, to support a hospice in each area.

Competition between the two teams was fierce and they both worked very hard raising money before the event with raffles, online and text donations, cake bakes and even a "give a car" donation.

On the day itself, the teams set off to raise as much money in store as possible with advertising in the papers and radio, street collecting, and decorating the shop windows to get as much traffic into the shops, and as many people spending as possible!

The Derian House came out on top by the narrowest of margins but between the two teams they raised over £5,500 which is set to be matched by Legal and General.

Jessica Wheale Corporate Fundraiser for Naomi House said of the achievement, “I knew from all of the work the team were putting in before the day itself we were leaving the shop in safe hands and they didn’t disappoint. Not only did they take over the running of the shop they also put a lot of effort into increasing the takings. From the most successful tombola I have ever seen to braving the cold and wind with bucket collections, the team worked tirelessly all day and the results were fantastic”

Julie Greenwood, Platform Services Director at Legal and General added,
"Every Day Matters is the organising thought of Legal & General, and what better way to make every day matter, than to use our time and talents to support Naomi House and Derian House Children's Hospices.  The Store Wars challenge was great fun, and helped us work as a team to raise funds through raffles, cake bakes, online and working to increase the shop's takings on the day!".  We were overwhelmed by the warm welcome we got in the shops, and we thoroughly enjoyed our day.  We ended the day, very tired, but very happy and proud at raising £11,000 including matching from L&G. Thank you for the opportunity - it was a real privilege."
