Fulflood Fete

The first Fulflood Fete was held on Saturday July 24 at Orams Arbour. It was opened by new Winchester MP Steve Brine, and was organised by city resident Helen Osborne.
Attractions included hook a duck, a dog show, egg & spoon race, inflatable slides, a tombola and a plant stall and all money raised was in aid of children’s hospice Naomi House. Over 30 local entrepreneurs had stalls ranging from handmade cushions, crepes, Spanish snacks, poetry, photography, jewellery and much more.
Steve said: “I’ve opened a few fetes so far this year but it was really nice to come to this one because it is new. Susie and I used to live in Fulflood so it was extra-special to join the celebrations on Saturday.
“Helen did a fantastic job in getting it off the ground from nothing and I sincerely hope it will now become a regular fixture in the Winchester Summer calendar, not least because Popcorn is very cross with me for not taking him along and entering him in the Pets Corner dog competition.”
Local schoolchildren from nearby Western Primary School had designed the poster for the event and prizes were handed out to the winning designers, Elise, Tom and Owen.
Children’s author Bryan Beggs used the event to hand over a cheque for £1,000 to Naomi House, raised from proceeds of his book 'Hello Pud-Swan’.
Organiser Helen Osborne said: “I am absolutely thrilled the event has been a success for local entrepreneurs and it has brought the community together in a fun way. Fulflood has grown and changed so much over the years, it is vital we keep the community together and ensure Fulflood remains a safe, fun and vibrant place to live and work. This event has been extremely fun for all visitors of all ages and we look forward to holding the fete next year.”
