A retired neurosurgeon from Southampton is publishing a photographic book featuring artwork from a Hampshire gallery to raise funds for Naomi House Children’s Hospice.
John Garfield took the pictures over two years at The Garden Gallery, Broughton near Stockbridge run by garden designer Rachel Bebb.
Proceeds from the sale of the book will be used to commission two engraved glass windows by Winchester engraver Tracey Sheppard FGE for Naomi House’s bereavement suite. Tracey, whose work can already be seen in the hospice dovecote, is Honorary Vice President of the Guild of Glass Engravers. Her many prestigious commissions include work for Winchester College, the BBC, Hampshire County Council and the Dean and Chapter of Winchester. Her work has also been presented to Her Majesty the Queen and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
Naomi House Chief Executive Ray Kipling says: “I have admired John Garfield’s stunning black and white photographs of Hampshire for some years and we are thrilled that he and Rachel have dedicated this book to raise money for Naomi House. The book and the exhibition are beautiful things and they will pay for beautiful windows in the hospice.”
The book, called The Garden Galley, costs £15 and is available from The Garden Gallery, by calling 01794 301144 or emailing rachelbebb@aol.com.
The Garden Galley’s summer exhibition, featuring work by some 60 artists with a special focus on the work of Charlotte Mayer FRBS, is open from 11am to 5pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until 22 July.
